How to Create a Fund

Creating a Fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation is simple and flexible. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Decide When to Give

You can establish your Fund today, plan it for the near future, or include it in your will or trust. Many donors choose a combination—giving during their lifetime and as part of their estate plan.

  2. Decide What to Give

A variety of assets can be used to create your Fund, including cash, publicly traded securities, closely held stock, real estate, life insurance, and tangible personal property.

  3. Choose a Name for Your Fund

You may name your Fund after yourself, your family, or in honor or memory of someone special. Some donors also choose a name that reflects the Fund’s purpose.
