March 25, 2026Please join us as we welcome Kris Wrenn, Sycamore representative, to the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors.
“I am excited to learn about the full scope of the work the Community Foundation does to enhance quality of life in the communities we live,” Kris said. “I look forward to using my talents and energy to actively support and advance its mission.”

Kris moved to Sycamore with her family at the age of eight so her parents could fulfill their dream of owning a small business. That move marked the beginning of more than 50 years of family ownership of Kar-Fre Flowers. Growing up in a small-town business family instilled in her the importance of giving time and resources to help build a stronger community for all, values that have shaped her lifelong commitment to service.
She is a graduate of Sycamore High School and earned her degree in management from Northern Illinois University. Kris’ involvement in the Sycamore community expanded significantly when her children began attending Southeast School. She became an active volunteer, helping in classrooms, reading to students, and assisting with events such as Fun Fairs and Book Fairs. Her appreciation for public education and community engagement led her to participate in the Sycamore Education Foundation’s first fundraiser, Take Root, and later to serve on the Foundation’s Board.
Kris’ service to local education culminated in 12 years on the Sycamore School Board, where she helped guide decisions that supported students, families, and educators throughout the district.
Kris and her husband, Kent, have two children and three grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, including knitting, cross-stitching, and embroidery, as well as gardening, walking outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family. She also enjoys attending live blues concerts.
She is proud to represent the city of Sycamore and values its vibrant downtown, strong schools, thriving business community, and family-oriented spirit.
The Community Foundation Board of Directors are selected to represent communities throughout DeKalb County. The Board sets policy, formulates strategic planning, and determines priorities in grantmaking. Because of the willingness of these able, effective individuals who donate their time and talents to the ultimate betterment of DeKalb County, the Foundation continues to grow to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
