February 10, 2026Please join us in saying THANK YOU to David Castle for his six years of service on the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors.
David represented the DeKalb community during his time on the Board. With strong roots in Sandwich and the southern areas of DeKalb County, he brought a true countywide perspective to his service, shaped by relationships and connections across many local communities.
David served on several Foundation committees, including the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and Grants Committee. He also served as Treasurer and chaired the Finance Committee. When David joined the Board six years ago, the Foundation’s assets were about $53 million. As reported at the January 2026 Board meeting, that figure has grown to approximately $85 million. David shared how honored he was to help steward this generosity on behalf of donors and expressed deep appreciation for the Foundation’s thoughtful approach to investments and strong relationships with advisors.
One moment that stood out most to David was the Foundation’s support of the Lee Community Fire Protection District. This grant helped fund a life-saving oxygen tank replenishment system. Without it, the fire district would have faced costly OSHA fines they could not afford. For David, this was a powerful example of how community support can step in at the right time to solve real problems and keep people safe.
David especially enjoyed his time on the Grants Committee. He was consistently impressed by the strong grant applications and the growing number of nonprofit organizations serving DeKalb County. This experience gave him a deeper appreciation for the wide range of services available in our community and for the generosity of local residents who continue to support them.
Reflecting on his service, David said, “I had a blast. Volunteering is a privilege and a reward. I spent time with caring, talented, and dedicated Board volunteers and professional staff who shared the goal ‘For good. For all. For ever.’ We are meeting that goal. Not much is greater than that.”
We thank David for his time, care, and leadership. His service has helped strengthen communities across DeKalb County and make a lasting difference.
