New Illinois Tax Credit Benefits Donors to the Community Foundation
April 1, 2025We’re excited to welcome Bradley (Brad) Meyer, Somonauk representative, to the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors!
“On a personal level, I am proud that my family ties to the Somonauk area stretch back at least six generations. The Somonauk community has a long history of generous support for its schools, churches, service organizations, youth sports, and other institutions. I love that! This generous community spirit is alive and well today.”
Born at the Sandwich Community Hospital, Brad has spent his entire life in the Somonauk area. He is a proud graduate of Somonauk High School and Joliet Jr. College. Brad spent 20 years working in concrete construction and is now a fourth-generation farmer on his family’s farm, which has been in operation for over 100 years.
Brad is an active community leader, serving on the boards of the Marie Louise Olmstead Memorial Museum in Somonauk and the Leland Farmers Company. He is also a Trustee of the Somonauk Community Fire Protection District, serving as board Secretary; and is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
In his free time, Brad enjoys exploring all types of history—especially local and agricultural history—as well as genealogy. A dedicated sports fan, he follows the White Sox and Bears closely. He also loves road trips, antique stores, tractor and engine shows, baseball games, the Sandwich Fair, and classic movies and TV.
“I have been involved with organizations that received Community Foundation grants in the past and have seen firsthand the Foundation’s benefit to our communities. I’m excited to be part of an organization that continues to make a lasting impact in DeKalb County.”
The Community Foundation Board of Directors represents communities throughout DeKalb County. Board members set policy, formulate strategic plans, and guide grantmaking priorities. Thanks to the dedication of leaders like Brad, the Foundation continues to grow—helping create a stronger, more vibrant future for all who call DeKalb County home.
