The DeKalb County Healthcare Professional Scholarship offsets educational expenses for students currently enrolled or committed to beginning a college degree or health-related program(s) that prepare students for careers in the allied health professions. The scholarship is administered at the DeKalb County Community Foundation. Applications are available from February 1 – April 1 each year.

Scholarship Criteria:

• • Any permanent resident of DeKalb County, IL.
  • Students currently enrolled or committed to begin a college degree or health-related program in the allied health professions.
  • Have an immediate family member (defined as parents, siblings, spouse, or children) employed by Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb, IL, or Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital, Sandwich, IL;
    Or
    Be a Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital or Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital volunteer in good standing with at least 20 hours of service.

History of the Scholarship Opportunity:

The DeKalb County Healthcare Professional Scholarship Fund, formerly the Kishwaukee Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, was established at the DeKalb County Community Foundation in 2023 by the Northwestern Memorial Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to DeKalb County residents pursuing college degrees or health-related programs that prepare students for careers in the allied health professions who are volunteers of Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital or Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital or who have an immediate family member who is an employee of Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital or Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital.

This scholarship and a few others are not included in the Foundation’s Universal Scholarship Application. They are listed as additional scholarships offered through the Community Foundation. The additional scholarship listing contains opportunities for post-high school students, including award renewals, reapplications, and more. Applicants must determine their eligibility and apply using an application specific to that award.
