Strengthening Communities One Grant at a Time – 2022 Annual Report
August 2, 2023Meet Brianna Keegan, Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) alum and a graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School. During her time in YEP, Brianna had many opportunities for leadership development and embracing philanthropy.
So where is she now, and did the YEP program impact her life after high school? Let’s find out!
Meet Brianna Keegan
Hi, my name is Brianna Keegan, and I went to Genoa-Kingston High School, graduating class of 2021.
(Q) How many years were you in YEP?
(Brianna) I was in YEP for two years, was a grant group leader, and served on the YEP 2.Pro Committee (proactive grantmaking).
(Q) Where are you now, and what are you up to?
(Brianna) I am currently a junior at Illinois State University, pursuing a degree in marketing & communications with a minor in mass media. I intend to graduate in December 2024 and plan to pursue a master’s in sports management after. My goal is to work in collegiate football marketing and media in the future.
In my pursuit of these degrees, I know work experience is valuable. I have worked as a digital marketing media intern with Mission Volleyball since January 2023. I started a marketing coordinator position with Taylor Maciaszek State Farm this summer. I was also elected director of operations for Illinois State’s Sports Marketing Student Association for the 2023-2024 school year!
(Q) What’s a recent accomplishment you are proud of?
(Brianna) A recent accomplishment I am proud of is becoming director of operations for Illinois State’s Sports Marketing Student Association. I am extremely excited to work alongside my fellow board members and coordinate both athletic and philanthropic events to boost club engagement and recognition with the College of Business.
(Q) What were your most significant takeaways from YEP, and how are you using them now?
(Brianna) Some of my greatest takeaways from YEP were the power of working alongside others with the same passion to give and volunteering locally. Today, I make sure to always give back to local causes in any way I can, as well as supporting local businesses. There is nothing better than having a strong relationship with your community.
(Q) How are you currently (or plan to soon) giving of your time, talent, and treasure?
(Brianna) In July 2023, I represented Taylor Maciaszek State Farm at Grace’s Garden Gala at Goebbert’s Farm, to raise money for the Access for Every Child Fund at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. This event was extremely meaningful to me, as I had an incredible experience with Lurie’s for my scoliosis spinal fusion in 2019. I plan on finding additional volunteer opportunities with Lurie’s in the future. I am also meeting with Hoof Woof and Meow Animal Rescue in Elgin to discuss how I can volunteer my time helping animals as well as with marketing and social media efforts to spread the word on those available for adoption!
(Q) What advice do you have for future/current YEP members?
(Brianna) Future and current members, a few suggestions: The opportunities to give your time are everywhere, and one opportunity always leads to another. By giving your time, you will meet people with the same passions, making your work even more impactful!
