$188,430 Awarded in Spring Community Needs Grants
June 13, 2023Representatives of the DHS Alumni Scholarship Fund committee are thrilled to announce the 2023 scholarship recipients. Congratulations to graduating DeKalb High School (DHS) seniors Ashley Diedrich and Alan Dominguez (pictured).
“I plan to attend Augustana College studying kinesiology and physical therapy,” said Ashley Diedrich. “In addition, I’m excited to join the women’s soccer team. Overall, I hope to make an impact in academic research, athletics, philanthropy, and stay involved in the community. After completing my undergraduate, I intend to obtain a doctorate of physical therapy and work with athletes. Physical therapy has played a major role in my life, and I hope to help others the way I was helped. Post college, I hope to have a family of my own while still giving back to my parents who have given me so much. Most of all, I hope to live every day to its fullest. Each day and the people and things around you are a gift, not a given.”
“My goal is to graduate from Northern Illinois University with a law degree,” said Alan Dominguez. “From there, I hope to see a job offer from the law firm I intern at which will eventually give me the experiences needed to start a new firm. And at that point in my life, my goal is be happily married (with my mom living in the same neighborhood). Those are my goals, my aspirations, and what I hope life becomes.”
The DHS Alumni Scholarship Fund is an endowed Fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation. The Fund awards scholarships to graduating DHS seniors pursuing continuing education and training for career advancement. Students attending a vocational-technical school, trade school, two-year college, four-year college, or university are eligible. The inaugural awarding of the scholarship takes place this spring during the DHS awards night.
Created as an ongoing legacy for DeKalb High School students and the community, the Fund provides an exciting opportunity for DHS alumni to participate in crafting this historical legacy to support future generations of DeKalb High School students.
The scholarship committee has scheduled an awareness campaign to reach upcoming DHS class reunions. “We are searching for individuals with a vested interest in the high school and community and those who are involved with the planning and organization of class reunion activities,” said Levinsky. “We hope to reach far and wide. We want all DHS alumni to become aware of this exciting opportunity.” Please get in touch with dhs1973scholarshipgroup@gmail.com with any information.
