Illinois Creative Recovery Grants
March 22, 2023The DeKalb County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the Steven ‘Mr. G’ Griglione Scholarship Fund. The Fund is a tribute to the late Steven Griglione and honors his impact on music education in the community. The scholarship is intended for a graduating senior who participated in music classes and/or programs all four years at Sycamore High School and is continuing studies in music education or general education.
“My father Steve, like his own father Raymond, was a born educator,” said Brad Griglione. “He started his teaching career in the public school system but soon was compelled to combine his passion for teaching with his other great passion, music. His great pleasure was to serve Sycamore and the surrounding communities as a music educator. He would be proud to help the community that gave him so much joy by assisting Sycamore music students in continuing their passion for education.”
High school students interested in applying for the Steven ‘Mr. G’ Griglione Scholarship are encouraged to use the Community Foundation’s Universal Scholarship Application process.
Steven Griglione was born September 9, 1950, in Morris, IL. He received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Northern Illinois University. In 1977, Steven opened Mr. G’s Music Studio (Sycamore) and served the community for 43 years. He is credited with teaching multiple generations of musicians within the Sycamore community.
“Mr. G is synonymous with local music instruction and education. We are honored to carry on his name in a permanent, endowed scholarship Fund that will assist Spartan musicians to carry on that legacy for decades to come,” said Dan Templin, Community Foundation Executive Director.
Donations to any Fund at the Community Foundation, including the Steven ‘Mr. G’ Griglione Scholarship Fund, can be made online or by mail to the DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore, IL 60178.
