Cook Fund Responds to Needs and Opportunities in DeKalb County
January 5, 2022
Thank You Roger Maas!
January 11, 2022Please join us as we say THANK YOU to Amie Carey for her time and service on the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors.
Amie served on the Community Foundation Board for nine years, representing Hinckley. “The advantages of a small community like Hinckley come when we see people pulling together to create positive change,” she said. “The impact is felt community-wide. An example of this is the Harvesting our Future group. They formed as a result of an Economic Development Grant from the Community Foundation. The work they did for our community was positive and transformational.”
Amie served on various Foundation committees during her years of service, including Community Grants, Community Engagement, Workforce Development, Executive, and more.
“By far, my passion has been for the Community Grants Committee,” she said. “It is difficult to express how much I learned about DeKalb County through reading grant applications and taking part in site visits. I am impressed with the great work of our local nonprofit organizations. They are doing things for our community that I never knew before!”
A favorite memory of Amie’s is taking part in the various events planned for the Foundation’s 25th anniversary year. She was particularly fond of the Celebration Grant events. “We visited every community, both large and small, in DeKalb County with these events. Our purpose was to celebrate, thank, and give back to each. It was inspiring to learn more about each community, including a better understanding of the history and work of the Community Foundation.”
In a final question, we asked Amie to share advice for new and future Board members. She responded, “Get involved and listen to what is happening throughout DeKalb County. You will be amazed at the amount of great work they accomplish. Be patient with yourself as you learn more about the Foundation each year. There are many moving parts, and it takes a while to understand them all!”
Thank you, Amie Carey, for giving of your time, talent, treasure, ties, and testimony to DeKalb County. You are a true philanthropist, and for that, we are grateful!
