Jeremy Mumm, 2021 Renaissance Education Scholarship recipient
Congratulations to Jeremy Mumm, recipient of the 2021 Renaissance Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship award will assist Jeremy as he pursues a degree in nursing from Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois. The award is made possible through the generosity of donor Yvonne Johnson and her creation of the Renaissance Education Scholarship Fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation.
Jeremy graduated from Earlville High School in 2005. He currently works part-time as an emergency room technician at Rochelle Community Hospital and OSF St. Paul Medical Center. He intends to work both jobs while attending school.
“I want to help and be of service to other people,” said Jeremy. “As the COVID-19 pandemic worsened last year, I decided to do more for my patients and community by going back to school to pursue a degree in nursing. With this degree, I can help even more people.”
Jeremy is no newcomer to the medical field with more than ten years of experience. He has worked as a CNA at hospitals, long-term care homes, and an EMT for an ambulance. He is a two-time nominee for the OSF Sunflower Award, which honors staff who go above and beyond for their patients, demonstrating excellence through their extraordinary care and service.
“I am thrilled to move forward with my dream of becoming a registered nurse,” he said. “Scholarships like this are tough to come by as an adult returning to school. Finding the balance between work and school and succeeding at both is very challenging. Thank you to Yvonne Johnson for her generosity and forward-thinking.”
The Renaissance Scholarship Fund provides educational support to those currently part of the workforce who wish to pursue their education dreams. Long-time educator Yvonne Johnson created the Fund in 2007 at the Community Foundation to align with her charitable interests.
