Community Foundation Elects New Board Leadership
March 22, 2021
Welcome Michael Haines!
March 31, 2021The DeKalb County Community Foundation is happy to announce the Wrennhouse Fund. This new Donor Advised Fund provides donors Kent and Kris Wrenn a charitable way to express their love for the Sycamore community and the nonprofit organizations that serve it.
Kris and Kent were both raised in homes that believe strong communities were created by “doing your part”, giving back, and helping your neighbors. For them, Sycamore is a city that places a unique focus on family, community, and values. A place that gives others the opportunity to flourish.
According to the Wrenns, “We live by the belief that love conquers all. Our faith in the power of love dictates how we live our lives and how we treat one another; with kindness, with dignity, and with respect.”
Kris moved to Sycamore in 1972 at the start of 3rd grade when her family purchased a flower shop, Kar-Fre Flowers (named after her parents, Karen and Fred Rhynders). After graduating from Sycamore High School and then Northern Illinois University, Kris joined the family business where she has spent her career. Kent grew up in the village of Winfield, IL. Upon meeting Kris, he realized his future belonged in Sycamore with her so after graduating from the University of Iowa, he moved to Sycamore. Kent has spent his career in manufacturing as a human resources professional specializing in talent development. Their children, Lucy and Madeline, were both born and raised in Sycamore and are proud graduates of Sycamore High School.
“We made the decision to partner with the Community Foundation because our values, to enhance the quality of life and proactively help to build a stronger community, align,” said the Wrenns. “Sycamore is a special place that has given so much to our family. Sharing our love for this community and contributing our ‘MORE’ is what the Wrennhouse Fund endeavors to accomplish. Regardless of circumstances, we believe all children should have access to opportunities that allow them to take flight and explore their world. By giving back and helping our neighbors, we can contribute to building strong and vibrant communities which help to make this world a better place.”
The Wrenns were motivated to give of their time, talent, and treasure because of the lessons learned and values instilled during their upbringing. Through the Wrennhouse Fund, they have another opportunity to promote philanthropy through their support of nonprofit organizations that serve youth, families, and learning.
“We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the Wrenn family by managing their charitable giving Fund,” said Dan Templin, Foundation Executive Director. “Donor Advised Funds are just one of the many options donors have at the Foundation to fulfill their philanthropic goals and ‘put their money where their heart is’.”
