Please join us as we say THANK YOU to Kristina Garcia for her time and service on the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors. Kristina served on the Community Foundation Board from 2011-2019, representing Sycamore and the greater Latino community of DeKalb County.
During her eight years of service, Kristina served on a variety of Foundation committees including Community Grants, Marketing & Development, Executive, and Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP).
Some of her favorite takeaways included the Foundation’s very first Give DeKalb County event. “I was amazed to see the number of nonprofit organizations that participated and the amount of support the community gave in just one day,” said Kristina. “I remember when the giving day idea was initially discussed. How exciting it was to see it come to life with such tremendous results.”
One of Kristina’s favorite committees to serve on was YEP, a high school youth-led committee of the Foundation. Students learn about philanthropy, nonprofits, and grantmaking. “I enjoyed learning through the eyes of youth,” she said. “I was always amazed to see how they supported each other’s ideas and took great care of the dollars entrusted to their care.”
In a final question, we asked Kristina to share any advice she has for new and future board members to the Foundation. She went on to say “Learn as much as you can, participate on as many committees as you can, and share your knowledge!”
Thank you Kristina Garcia for giving of your time, talent, treasure, and ties to DeKalb County. Your leadership, fun loving attitude, and desire to serve others is greatly appreciated. You are a true philanthropist and for that, we are very grateful!
