Keleher Family Scholarship Provides Support for Students
February 5, 2020
Welcome Justin Wegener!
February 10, 2020Please join us as we say THANK YOU to LaVerne Gyant for her time and service on the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors. LaVerne served on the Community Foundation Board from 2014-2019, representing DeKalb.
During her six years of service, LaVerne served on a variety of Foundation committees including Essential Skills, Community Engagement, Community Grants, and Kindergarten Readiness.
Some of her favorite takeaways included the Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration in 2018, the informal board discussions which allowed board members to get to know each other better, and the many opportunities to visit other communities in DeKalb County.
“It was a pleasure to represent the DeKalb community, especially in the work that was being done with Kindergarten Readiness and Essential Skills,” said LaVerne. “It was an exciting opportunity to work with individuals and organizations as we sought ways to better prepare our young people for success and for their transitions as future leaders and professionals. It was also a pleasure to work with individuals who were proactive and had a desire to see their community expand and meet the needs of their neighbors.”
In a final question, we asked LaVerne to share any advice she has for new and future board members to the Foundation. She went on to say, “As a board member you’ll be introduced to many opportunities to get involved in the community. Be open and find your place.”
Thank you LaVerne Gyant for giving of your time, talent, treasure, and ties to DeKalb County. Your leadership, community values, and desire to serve others is greatly appreciated. You are a true philanthropist and for that, we are very grateful!
