February 10, 2020The DeKalb County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the Keleher Family Scholarship Fund, benefiting a graduating senior from Sycamore High School. Students applying for this scholarship must attend Sycamore High School, have a need for financial assistance, demonstrate a history of community involvement, and plan to attend an accredited college, university, or trade school.
Ken Keleher was born and raised in Galena IL, where he and his 11 siblings grew up on a dairy farm. After graduating from high school, Ken went on to pursue a degree in agriculture. Ken moved to Sycamore in 1966 to study business management at Northern Illinois University (NIU).
Ken recalls his years of pursuing a higher education challenging and a financial burden. He and his family wish to pass along a lasting legacy of love and support for the community. “If we can help someone out in any way with the financial challenges of additional schooling, that’s what we want to do,” he said. “We understand what it’s like to work hard, study hard, and scrape by to ensure a better future. We want to help.”
The Keleher family has more than one Fund established at the Community Foundation. They believe in the Foundation’s mission to enhance the quality of life in DeKalb County.
