Grant Seeker Workshop Announced for December
November 6, 2019The DeKalb County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the Doran and Rose Greif IVVC Pay It Forward Award Fund, providing support to the Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC) in Sandwich, IL. The Fund offers scholarship awards to accomplished students studying automotive technology or the culinary arts, to be successful in their studies and ‘pay it forward’. The awards provide students with an opportunity to purchase items needed for classwork and encourages them to set goals for academic and attendance success.
This Fund is named in memory of Doran and Rose Greif who lived their entire married lives in Sandwich. Both left their mark on their community. Doran was an extraordinary man who volunteered his time to help many people with their daily activities and needs. Rose was a fantastic baker and well known for her grape pie that she made every year for her church’s stand at the Sandwich Fair. In addition, she won many first place ribbons for her Fair entries in canning, volunteered in many ways, and was a Girl Scout leader. Both Doran and Rose were very active in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandwich.
“My parents believed it was important to pay it forward and help people accomplish their dreams,” said Denise Curran, daughter of the Greif’s. “It is our hope that this scholarship will do just that, allow high school students to achieve their dreams.”
