High School Students Encouraged to Attend YEP Meet & Greet
August 7, 2018Congratulations to Dylan Propheter of DeKalb, recipient of the 2018 Palmer Family Music Education Scholarship award. Following his graduation from DeKalb High School this past May, Dylan plans to attend Illinois Wesleyan University in the fall, majoring in Music Education.
“Music has been a passion of mine since I was very young,” said Dylan. “Every experience I’ve had with teaching music is a highlight of my life. Encouragement from music instructors have shaped me into the person I am today. I look forward to doing that for the next generation.”
Scholarship funds are an easy way to support and promote further education of the youth in our community. Dee Palmer, director of the DeKalb Municipal Band since 1948, passed away in November 2011 at the age of 97. Palmer and his family have contributed to the musical pleasure of thousands of people in DeKalb County for over 160 years. The Palmer Family Music Education Scholarship Fund was set up in 2009 to honor this local music legacy.
