Congratulations to Destinee Feliciano of DeKalb, recipient of the 2017 Palmer Family Music Education Scholarship award. During the June 13 DeKalb Municipal Band concert at Hopkins Park in DeKalb, Destinee was honored with the $3,500 scholarship award. Feliciano will attend the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign for jazz studies and music education.
When asked about her interest in music Destinee went on to say, “For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for music performance. Early on my interactions with music made me realize it was more than something I simply enjoyed watching and listening to, but something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life”.
Dee Palmer, director of the DeKalb Municipal Band since 1948, passed away in November 2011 at the age of 97. Palmer and his family have contributed to the musical pleasure of thousands of people in DeKalb County for over 160 years. The Palmer Family Music Education Scholarship was set up in 2009 to honor this local music legacy.
